About
I'm Jeanette, Mummy to six children and married to Woody; we live in a chaotic Edwardian house in the North West of England.
I've been blogging here since 2005, mostly about sewing, with a bit of knitting and general mumming thrown in for good measure.
Sewing is my passion. I remember as a small child one of my most treasured possessions was a paper bag filled with fabric scraps. As a teenager I would cut up hand me downs, or scour Birmingham's Rag Market for vintage treasures to convert into the clothes I wanted to wear but couldn't afford. ( I spent rather a lot of time looking through glossy fashion magazines back then.)
I still love a good rummage at a market or charity shop, usually for
vintage linens I can chop up and give a new life, but I'm not averse to
hacking up vintage clothing to re fashion too!
I had a wonderful needlework teacher at school, Mrs Geddes. She taught me all the basics of needlework, I often have her voice in my head as I stitch, and imagine she would roll her eyes with a knowing smile if she caught me taking a short cut. Exactly why I called this blog "Lazy Seamstress".
This blog changed in 2009 after the birth and sadly the death of our fifth child, our youngest daughter Florence Violet. This space became my santuary, but all along I sewed. There is power in the gentle hum of a sewing machine or the simple threading of a needle.
I run a small business, Flossie's Garden designing and making womens and childrens clothing, sewing patterns and sewing kits, and I have re discovered my passion for surface pattern design, something I studied in college a life time ago.
Summer 2014 I became a tutor at Ministry of Craft in Manchester. I teach an upcycling class, and teach small craft and sewing projects at events and in the studio.
