Spinning Plates !

11:08 am

Wow! Hi there! It's been a while, is there anyone out there still reading?
Don't you hate the culture of "busy"? I know I do, but you know what, I have been really flipping busy! I started a new job last April as a Textile Technician at my local sixth form college. Only two days a week, but add that to my work at Ministry of Craft and for Sew Now magazine, plus the volunteer work I do for LLLGB and my WI sewing group......hmmm you get the picture?

I am determined to manage my time better this year, and set realistic goals.I'm keeping a bullet journal ( not a pretty one, or I'd spend all my time doing the pretty and not the stuff! ), plus I have again bought the fabulous Makers Yearbook which I hope will keep me on track.

I have of course sewn for myself in little pockets of time, plus a couple of quilty gifts for special people....though I am so not a quilter!!

This year though I'm going for quality over quantity; I'm not promising I wont run something up quick when the impulse takes me, but I feel I need a good quality basic wardrobe, and for me that is classic fit and flare styles, and because I have a passion for good underpinnings, and can NEVER find a decent underslip that fits my boobs, I'm adding those to my to do list too!

So, if anyone is still out there, let me know in the comments what your sewing (or otherwise) plans are for 2018.

Don't be shy, say hello!

  1. You are not alone. Great plans. I am looking to make this year what I need and not what I know will not suit me or I won't get any more than one wear of. Lots of repurposing going on for me. Keep spinning the plates K xXx

    1. Thanks! And yes, it's so hard not to just try something you are certain wont suit you, but it looks so good on someone else...I make that mistake so often.

  2. Nice to hear from you! Realistic goals sound very good!
After listening to the 'Love to sew' podcast I decided to set some 'light' goals/resolutions. I want to learn to fit my body better (hopefully my size is not changing that much anymore after 3 kids in 4 years). So I'm going to do a local fit course in march and a bra course in the autumn.
I want to sew jeans, planned this already 2 years in a row, but this year I will succeed! Use my stash more and sew what I feel like for my kids, but not everything. Sewing is my hobby but I tend to think 'I can make that cheaper and better' but this takes away part if the fun.

  5. My sewing goals are to make fewer but hopefully more-cherished items. I just don’t know what to do with all the things I’ve made that no longer fit or aren’t what I had in mind.
Nice to see you posting again. I like hearing what you’re up to.

  7. I started bullet journaling too a couple of years ago. It's not pretty but functional. I'd love to do pretty but doing that would mean Im not doing stuff I should be. The prettiest it gets is that everyone has a different colour so I know at a glance who the entry relates to.

Looking forward to seeing the evolution of your "quality" wardrobe.
