I've been very busy lately, and for the first and probably last time,I've actually completed all my Christmas sewing with time to spare...I can't quite believe it myself!!
Firstly there is my secret santa project for someone from the online sewing group I belong to.This is a lovely pattern,Vogue V7862.I really enjoyed putting it together, and hope to make one for myself in the new year.
You can't see from the picture, but there are concealed zipped pockets in the straps for mobile phone, purse etc.
The bag is also more green than it looks.
I added the store bought bag charm as a little detail.
Then, there are the little fleece booties I made for Sid.
Gypsy skirts for my girls.
And finally pjs,and nightgowns, for me and my girls.

My latest make is a baby kimono in soft Amy Butler flannel. I used the kimono pattern from Kwik Sew Sewing for Babies book, but extented the right side for an overlap.
I cut bias binding from a contrast Amy Butler flannel, and also used that to make the front ties.
I even remembered to add a label on the back.
Pretty pleased with the results, though the bias binding did give me a bit of a headache.
I just hope the recipient is pleased with it too.

Been really busy lately, mostly making birthday gifts for my childrens friends.Today though I decided to make myself a fleece poncho to fit over me and Sid when he's in his sling.
I used a Kwik Sew pattern (2826),a simple pattern with a zip front,as I mostly wear Sid on my front while he's so small. If I start wearing him on my back I'll have to create an opening on the back of the poncho. Though I might just make another one.
I'm not terribly happy with the finished item,I managed to get the collar uneven, and I know that's going to bother me even if no one else ever notices.

I made this skirt for me,using three different Amy Butler fabrics,(the ginger bliss range)and a mock suede eyelet trim.
I guess it's probably not to everyones taste, but I like it and plan to wear it with knee high boots and a sweater/long sleeved t shirt.....I just wont wear it and use my changing bag at the same time LOL!!
Being a simple wrap it will fit me now with my post baby belly and will shrink with me too...that's presuming I do shrink!

Having had a break from sewing while I gave birth to my fourth child,Sidney Indigo ,I finally got back to my machines, and it feels great!
Today I finished a snuggly winter wrap for Sid in gorgeous soft Minkee, and lined with cotton stretch terry.
The pattern is from Ottobre,Fall 2003.I've made this before for a friends baby, and it's such a simple design, but perfect for an extra lightweight layer on a young baby, especially one carried in a sling as often as Sid.
I made it in a size 74 as Sid is very long, but looking at the finished item,I wish I'd lengthened the body a little.I also used poppers instead of velcro fastening.

Finally decided it was time to start maternity leave and concentrate on my family, and on finishing my baby sewing.
After a disasterous sewing week where I lost my temper with a maternity top I'd been working on and threw it in the bin,I started work on the Amy Butler Messenger bag I'm intending to use as a changing bag for the baby.
It went together really well, was a joy to sew,and I'm really pleased with the result even if my dh thinks it's too flowery!

I forced myself to do some work sewing at the weekend, but managed to squeeze in a couple of things for the baby too!
I bought some wool ages ago,and had a go at felting it myself with the intention of making wool wraps for my ds,who is now completely potty trained!
I wasn't altogether happy with the felting,it's a bit bobbly, kinda like egg boxes...if that makes sense?
So the wool has been sat in (one of) my stash cupboards for about a year, and I thought it was high time I sewed it up.
I decided as I'm expecting a summer baby to make matching baby vests, and then the wrap and vest can be worn together as an outfit.
The wraps are two layers of wool, serged together.Pale green outside, yellow inside. The vests are simply store bought and embroidered.
I'm not 100% happy with this project, but they are quite cute, and made a change from sewing nappy after nappy for a wholesale order!

Got a little more baby sewing done today. This time a couple of thick and lush hooded baby towels.Gorgeous burley knit terry backed with equally gorgeous killington flannel and overlocked with primary variegated jeans stitch. Also added a bit of embroidery to the hoods, only the built in designs on my machine, but they look cute.
Finally I got some sewing done for this poor neglected unborn baby!I should be doing work sewing today, but just couldn't face it,so decided to spend some time baby sewing.
To get myself in the swing of things I started out by running up a few crib sheets, and a pram blanket, then using some cotton interlock raided from a friends stash I set about making a lightweight baby sleeping bag.
I had no pattern and just kinda made it up as I went along, but I think it worked out ok.There are things I'd do differently if I made another.I think maybe the ruffle at the top might be too wide for a newborn (even a 10lber which is what I'm likely to have!),and I'm not completely sold on the snap closure either...maybe elasticated straps would've been better?I didn't want to do ties as I thought that'd be fiddly in the middle of the night!
Thinking about it now, maybe I should've used a drawstring at the bottom instead of sewing it closed...for easy nappy changes?
Next on my baby sewing list are some hooded towels and an heirloom blanket,oh yes and a changing bag, probably lots more too!

So the latest edition of Ottobre landed on my doormat this morning and there's lots in there I'd like to make, this time I'm determined I will too!!
As usual though I'm thinking through all the work sewing, and general sewing I need to do first.
I'm expecting my fourth baby in July,so I need to get as much work sewing out of the way before then as possible, plus I need (and want) to make a few more maternity tops and some baby items before then too...arghhhhhh, I need more hours in the day!
