With India away at University, She and Eden have swapped bedrooms. Actually the day India got her A level results Eden was in her (much bigger) room measuring up, had made a detailed floor plan and started a Pinterest board of new room ideas!
Eden moved into India's old room a couple of weeks ago and I was left the task of decorating Eden's old room; India's new room in time for her coming home this coming weekend.
Of course, as is usual the budget was non existent, in fact I spent only £12.50 on a new mattress topper, and £14 on a new rug which hasn't arrived yet. Everything else was shopped for from around the house.



The bed is the very first bed we bought for India when she was a toddler, I've simply painted it with a half pot of cream emulsion left over from other projects. Three thick layers, that should knock about and get more interesting as time goes on...lazy shabby chic!

The duvet and pillow case is made from vintage sheets I had in my fabric stash, the welsh woollen blanket is a hand me down from Grandma Margaret, and the cushions are from India's old room.
Oh yes and the walls are painted with two different shades of grey paint left over from other projects, I just mixed them together, luckily there was just enough.



The cross stitch was a 1st Birthday present from Aunty Clare.



Curtains are made from a piece of heavyish cotton I'd been saving for a dress, the loom blanket box is a hand me down from Grandma Alyson, I repainted it with the same paint as the bed and used some vintage fabric from my stash to recover the top. The light shade has also been recovered with some lovely blue vintage fabric that was a gift from a friend, Caroline.

The mirror is from India's old room, the hoops are from my habby drawers and the fabric from my vintage scrap box. I will have to buy a few more hoops to complete this wall, I have plenty of scraps left to fill them though.



There is also a large fabric covered noticeboard that I made for India a while ago. I've hung a few of India's trinkets on that already.



I sent India these photos this morning and she said she loved it! I'm so glad. Thanks to Pinterest and our shared ideas board we managed to communicate at a distance, and I think it will be even better when India comes home and adds her personal touches.

Another charity shop tablecloth that caught my eye recently, and was begging to be made into a skirt.Priced at only £2.99 it would have been rude not to buy it.



Simply a full circle skirt, concealed zip, vintage button on the waistband. Therapy sewing with a satisfying result.

 This year, like many others I am taking part in Me Made May. I have pledged to try and wear at least one me made item of clothing each day of May. I wear a lot of me made clothing anyway, but maybe not usually every day. The reason I'm taking part this year is because I want to figure out what gaps there are in my me made wardrobe. I already have a good idea that I don't sew enough with solids, and I don't sew enough basics, relying too much on certain super cheap high street stores for things like stretchy tees and cardigans, though I also buy a lot from charity shops too.

May began on Thursday and I had an important meeting in Manchester where I needed to feel good , so I wore my Anemone skirt which I love. I wore it with a stretchy long sleeved t shirt from the high street, opaque tights and black loafers. I'm thinking I might need to buy the new Nettie pattern by Closet Case Patterns, and start replacing these stretchy tee's.



Yesterday I wore my trusty Fall For Cotton make . I think I need to make this dress up in some summery fabrics.
Today I'm wearing jeans! I almost never wear jeans, but I wanted to wear my Stretch Banksia and I have a distinct lack of solid skirts I could wear with it. The cardigan, shoes and headscarf are all from charity shops.

Anticipating Me Made May and my lack of solid fabrics in my stash I did nip in to Abakhan the other day with the intention of buying solids, I came away with these....



I need help! Tell me, what are your favourite solid fabrics to work with and where do you buy them?

On my list of things to do today I wrote "make something pretty". I thought it might stop me crying.
So, here are all the pretty things I've made today.
Firstly this beret for India, made from a felted sweater,with a little purple flower hair clip to keep it in place.
I also made some wrist warmers from the same fabric.

Then I remembered that my friend Vanessa had crocheted these lovely ear warmers for my girls last year, and I still hadn't sewn them together, can't believe it took me until now!


(Believe it or not, Eden has been off school with a sick bug for the past two days, she looks pretty healthy in these pics!)
Finally I made myself a cotton petticoat. This was on my sewing list last winter,but once I was pregnant I didn't need one. I plan to wear this under my winter skirts for warmth, and a bit of shushy girly ness!

I used my usual A line skirt pattern,with a ruffle, some lace and a simple elastic waistline. (trusty old fold over elastic).

So, there ya go, it's not all tears all of the time.

I ran up these trousers today for Sid, they are upcycled from a wool dressing gown I bought in a charity shop for a whole £1.

I made use of the pockets by cutting out each back panel to include them, and I added a cute lamington lane label just to finish them off.


These should keep him cosy when we go to Cornwall in a weeks time. They have lots of growing room too, so will see him through a couple of winters.
I used the same pattern as for these trousers,but with a few adjustments.
I'll post modelled pics when he wears them, the light is already too poor here for good pics.
