My Busy Little Guy
4:42 pm
Ernest is such a busy little fellow, and I've discovered that staying one step ahead of him is what's required before chaos reigns.
I admit, I've been a little slow to realise this. I rather stupidly expected Ernest to be just like my big boys, placid, calm and happy to play quietly at my feet as I potter, I hate to admit it, but I thought a couple of children back that I had this whole parenting lark pretty figured out, at least as far as babies were concerned. I think it's safe to say that Florence and Ernest have taught me that actually I knew very little.
Today I captured a few of our busy moments.
Playing with gloop gave me enough time to clear away the breakfast things.
Ernest hasn't played with cornflour gloop before, and wouldn't touch it. He was fascinated though, and used the spoon to mix and pour.
When he'd had enough of that, he got to finish off the washing up while I put on another load of laundry.
Time finally for a snack, but Ernest wanted to butter his own toast.
I just love the concentration on his face in all of these photos, and mostly I'm just so very glad he's here to surprise me, and teach me how to be his Mummy. x

Love these photos of E. He's so focused. What you say about parenting is so wise. Our children teach us how to parent them, beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGulping slightly at the thought of toddler days again :)
ReplyDeleteOh the concentration...just imagine what mischief he could create???

beautiful
ReplyDeleteI think to say you know 'very little' is being a bit hard on yourself lol. But lets face it each child brings their own uniqueness to the mothering relationship. I am loving watching Oscar's personality unfold and he is SO different from the other two big ones that I actually get a surprise when he does do something the same. Ernest is SO SO super cute by the way, melt.

Both of my boys are very busy! never ones for sitting and playing with one thing at a time. When my youngest was born I was run off my feet! happy days. My oldest has chilled now he is the grand old age of 4 and has discoverd LEGO!
ReplyDeleteI seriously cannot believe how much he looks like a little man in these photos! Such a precious boy who is growing so fast! Love the pics mamma!
ReplyDeleteSuch a wise comment "teach me how to be his mummy" - my thought for the day! Love your mixer in the background x
ReplyDeletePeople will tell you that though won't they? Nell was so calm and easy and everyone assured me it was all down to me! Lovely ideas to keep him busy. I am a bit obsessed with your little wire teapot shelf - looks vintage though?

ReplyDeleteI love this xx
ReplyDeleteSo grown up! Love that look on his face! I remember my godmother said to me when her sixth child was very little, that she'd had to throw away her idea that you could influence how kids turned out or use the same parenting techniques with each one because she'd realised that they are just themselves, and as a parent you just have to learn how to parent each one and provide the right environment for them to grow. I think you are doing a beautiful job, Jeanette.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, when I saw him buttering his own toast I began to wonder if I have been too protective of Vivien, I would never dream of letting her do that, but I wonder why not? I think I'm just a bit too protective of this one, I think I can learn something here! Much love, M
ReplyDeleteOooo I think Jessica and Ernest would get on well. She loves gloop but not as much as she loves washing up and playing in the sink! She is just such a busy person, she's always up to something. Hoping that Reuben will be one to play quietly at my feet as I potter but suspect he will get involved in his big sister's many, many schemes!
ReplyDeleteHi, I love to hear from readers, hate to think I'm talking to myself here, so don't be shy say hello!
