25 Days of giveaways, Day 3

Today is my turn to take part in this years 25 Days of Giveaways. This is the third year of taking part for me, and I'm glad to be participating again.
The first year I took part, I remember vividly sitting (too) quietly sewing away and making my giveaways. For me, stitching, creating is a kind of meditation, it calms my soul, it gives me a focus, and that first year I was so very glad to be making something and desperate to send some love out into the world to other parents hurting like I was.
I still feel this way. I don't (thankfully) have the quiet and the time these days, but I made time for this project. I needed that little slice of time to create and to hopefully stitch a little love into these little birds to send out to those that need it.

Long time readers will recognise these little birds. I first used them on baby carriers I made while pregnant with Florence, and then on her burial gown. I've also used them in her memory book, on clothing for myself, and even incorporated them into a fabric design.

I guess these little birds will always remind me of Florence.

I have four of these to give away. I was hoping for more, but at midnight last night, with raw fingers and tired eyes I realised it was time to sleep and stop stitching.
This is what the birds looked like at tea time yesterday.

So, I don't think I did too badly...well ok, I am dissapointed in myself that I couldn't get more completed, but hey...

So, if you would like one of these little doves to come and live with you, if you have lost a child through miscarriage, stillbirth, neo natal death or any other reason, please leave me a comment.
Tell me if you have a little somerhing always associated with your child.
I will leave this give away up for a full 24 hours to give all my international readers a chance to leave a comment. (It's 9.10 am as I type)
then I will use random.org to pick four winners.
Love to you all. x

Don't be shy, say hello!

  1. Oh Jeanette, they are beautiful, what a lovely idea too x

I have a lovely porcelain & silver dove for Michael that hangs above his portrait all year long even though it was just supposed to be a Christmas decoration - we love it.

  2. I feel greedy entering, given I've entered and won a giveaway of yours before, but these birds are too beautiful to say no.
Ladybirds used to always remind me of Hope. In late 2008, I saw them all the time. Now, not so much.
    Makes me sad.
    xo

  3. They are adorable Jeanette :)
I have a rose bush called 'Blessings' in memory of my lost babies. It has moved house twice with me and always flourishes ( it is still covered in roses today!) . I feel my babies spirits are alive in it and keep it looking healthy x

  4. How adorable! I love these! Beautiful idea!

Dragonflies and teddy bears are the main things that remind me of my daughter Laken. The day that I was picking out her funeral flowers. everywhere I looked there was a dragonfly and it just kind of became here "thing"

  5. Hi Jeanette, I am in Sydney. Last night we had our annual service of commemoration, consolation and hope. I have been going for 5 years now. My first child William would have been five in July this year. Each year, the group of women who have become pregnant after loss, make the special decorations and at the end of the service we all go and take one for our family trees. It is a beautiful, emotional and sharing time for our local baby loss community. The women made gorgeous paper hearts for all of us this year. The year that I made the decorations, we sewed white felt doves with a pink, purple or silver blanket stitch. Your birds are lovely. I think the lead up to Christmas is a tough time - I am so blessed to be in touch with the community in Sydney. I am also very pleased to be in your blog community. Thank you.

  6. I have a heart symbol that I designed (a large heart with two smaller hearts inside) that is for my sons, William and Ethan. I also have my initial necklace that I wear everyday.

Calypso's thing has always been Whales. But that's probably because we named her Whale Rider :) xoxox

  8. Hi Jeanette, you do beautiful work! I am new to your blog but I a going to take some time to read through your story.

I have several things that remind me of my daughter. Giraffes are probably the biggest reminder - She had a stuffed giraffe sitting above her bed keeping watch over her in the NICU. Every time I see one (or my kids or husband see one,) we are always reminded of Freja.

  10. They are so perfect Jeanette! And hour is VERY generous of you! A few days after we had Sophia and Ellie, we had to make their funeral arrangements. That day I kept seeing humming birds, so that is what always makes me think of my sweet girls. xo

  11. I would LOVE to have one of the blue birds.

Elephants always make me think of Drew, but birds to, too.

The day we came home from the hospital after he was stillborn, we were sitting around and having a terrible time and out of nowhere, a bird pooped on my father-in-law. It was such a shock that it actually gave us something to laugh about! From that point on, we've had a lot of weird bird encounters that always make me think they're signs from Drew.

  12. They are beautiful. Birds remind me of my son Chase who we lost in April, so I'd love to win one. This is our first Christmas without him and our tree will have lots of butterflies, which remind us of his angel sister Mikayla, so it would be nice to have a few special ones just for him too.

  15. Lovely birds, Jeanette. They turned out beautiful. You are so thoughtful to offer gifts to more than one person. I would be honored to have one for my little Kennedy. Chickadees and butterflies have always reminded me of her.

My daughter's name is Lily so I guess I always associate the flower with her...

  20. Hi Jeannette! I think of you often but am not on the blogs much....too busy completing writing for clients. I miss the blogs. I love the birds and they are a lovely remembrance of your Florence. To remember our George I have a rosary bracelet that I added the religious medals to for his name saints - St. George of course being the dearest to my heart. And often when I'm thinking of him and look outside I see a Starling Jay. Those make me think of our son who died. Much love to you and yours from way over here.

Red gerbera daisies are what I most strongly associate with Reid.

  22. They are so beautiful, Jeanette. I love what you say about stitching being a meditation for you. I can't "proper" sew but my cross stitch is like that for me. It's dragonflies for us - we have one etched on Emma's headstone. Because of the book Waterbugs and Dragonflies which someone bought us to read to the children and which I never have because I can't get through it without choking on the tears.

  23. I would be honored to win one of your beautiful doves. I remember the lovely dress you made for Florence. The thing that reminds me of Meredith is pink roses. All roses remind me of her, but especially pink. (((HUGS)))

  28. Aww, lovely! So talented! Tigers always remind us of Dylan. Before he was born, my husband painted a tiger on the back of his nursery door, so he's our little tiger.

  31. Beautiful giveaway. I'm entering because Tess and I each started tapestries last year that we are both contributing to for each others nurseries. It would be amazing to have one of your birds on each tapestry as yet another connection to this amazing community. xo...

  33. You are so creative, I really appreciate you taking the time to make these.

One thing that always reminds me of my Alexander is his identical twin brother Max(imilian). Not in a way where I think that Max is Alexander (I would never want to do that to either of them) but it gives me a small smile to know what he would have looked like.

Perhaps doves will be the new thing that I identify with Alexander.
