Is it crazy?

Is it crazy to buy your dead child a book?
I've wanted to buy this book for Florence for ages, but kept stopping myself, then a couple of days ago I just did it.
Maybe I am crazy, maybe those people whose eyes glaze over when I mention her again are right.
I'm not sure I really care if I am. I wanted a book I could read quietly in my head to my baby girl. I know she can't really hear me, but it soothes my soul to imagine that maybe just maybe...

You are my angel, my darling,
my star...and my love will find you,
wherever you are.

Don't be shy, say hello!

  1. It isn't crazy. A very lovely fellow blogger bought this book for me and whenever I read it to J, I think of G. Still can't read it without my voice breaking. It's a beautiful book xo

  4. Sometimes I think we do things because the person 'gone' is living in us, don't you think? A situation cropped up yesterday that would have lead my Dad to have a great time poking fun at someone. Despite being completely different in nature I watched my Mum take on the roll, but only after she said, imagine what your Dad would say. Whatever your beliefs, I think its true that people live on in others. Who else would know what Florence would have liked as well as her own mother.

  12. I think you should buy Florence whatever you wish. I buy things for Meredith still. I don't buy much but if I see a little something that reminds me of her, I get it! (((HUGS)))

  13. Not crazy at all. A friend gave me this book last month. For what would've been my little fellow's 5th birthday.

My friend wrote - Dear William, On his 5th birthday.

I was touched. It's a beautiful beautiful book and I'm sure holds lots of different meaning for many.

  14. Absolutely not crazy. I bought this for both my boys last Christmas, and whenever I read it to one of them, I am reading it to Calla, too. Actually, I think this book is perfect for our missing babies, maybe even more perfect than for the ones who are here.

  20. Though I didn't buy it myself, we do have a book just for hope, given to us by a dear friend and she even wrote in it, to Hope.
It is "On the Night You Were Born". This book you bought for baby Florence looks just as beautiful.

  22. Oh goodness Jeanette...I'm just catching up here. First of all Ernest is just gorgeous! Second, I hope your dad's birthday was peaceful for you. Lastly, I bought this book for my girls. It is beautiful! I have a few others I have bought for them too. I don't read them too often, but I still adore them and love seeing them in our home. xx

  23. Not crazy. Florence lives in your heart, and you needed the book for her and for you.
I also wanted to say thank you for putting together the baby loss resource page. My sister's college roommate went to a pre-natal appointment last week to find out there was no heartbeat. She was 40w 6d. I'm hoping that she'll find support/comfort/understanding by visiting some of the links you've listed.
